We will meet twice after the intial interview. The first time we will go over birth plan preparation, what is important to you and what you are hoping will happen. We will give you a package of information to read. You will also have access to our lending library and we can provide you with many resource materials. We will spend some time talking about medical procedure terminology and what to expect in the hospital, if that is where you will be giving birth. If you are planning a home birth, we have extensive knowledge of what to expect and what usually happens during a home birth, so we can answer any questions you may have about that also.
The second visit will be to review the birth plan and our labour support roles. We will spend some time practicing pain coping techniques as we have found this to be unequivocally one of the most valueable preparations you can do for labour and birth. And because birth is such a special time, we include at no extra charge, the opportunity for you to create the birth art of your choice:

We will be present at your labour from the moment you desire us to be there until after the birth. During this time we will help to remind you of the pain coping techniques, both physical and mental that we have practiced. We bring a birthing ball and some tools to ease your discomfort. If the labour is very long we may need to eat and sleep at your house. Or, if you aren't in active labour yet we may choose to go away and come back after a short rest. We will accompany you to the hospital and continue the same care. During the delivery, we will be there in what ever capacity you need, whether it be holding your hand, your leg or simply being the videographer. We will take pictures during the labour, birth and after with our digital camera. If you prefer us to use your camera, we should become familiar with it during one of our prenatal visits. We will be with you for approximately one hour or longer after the birth to help you during the immediate post-partum phase. If you desire help, we are available to assist with breastfeeding and answer any questions you may have immediately after the birth.

We will meet at your house once again after the birth to visit, admire the baby, and recount your birth experience if you would like. You will also receive a computer CD with your photos on it and a precious birth memory in story form.
