Mother Blessing Ceremonies

This is a great alternative to the traditional baby shower!
Guests bring gifts just for the expectant mother, for pampering or to help her when the baby is born. Everyone surrounds the mother-to-be and pampers her with a foot soak, massage and flowers for her hair. Positive birth stories are shared and the Mom is filled with affirming messages of her ability to birth her baby.
We ask each guest to bring a bead and attach a message to the Mom about what that bead means, and why it was chosen for her. These beads are then put on a string and the Mom can have them as a reminder of all the women who are thinking of her and supporting her while in labour.
As the guests leave, they are given a white candle. Everyone can light their candles when they hear that labour has begun as a way to send the labouring woman all their energy and support.
